DIY: Punch Up a Neutral Clutch With Neon Lace

In today's DIY, we're taking a cue from Erdem's Fall 2012 runway by taking a neutral clutch and updating it with neon-pink lace. The best part? You can personalize it by choosing your favorite color for the lace — the perfect way to punch up an LBD for a night out. Watch today's DIY, and leave us a comment below letting us know what you think. On Allison McNamara: Topshop dress.

Hi, it's Allison McNamara. Welcome back to FabSugar TV. For today's DIY, I'm gonna show you how to punch up a neutral clutch with neon lace. Here's what you'll need, a clutch, neon lace, a hot glue gun and glue stick, and scissors. First, you need to find your clutch and your lace. Today I'm using this small, white clutch but you can use any color that you want. And I'm using hot pink lace. And again, personalize it. Use anything that you want to use. I'm gonna mark out my lace right here. You'll only want about two inches on each side extra, so I'm gonna trim this as well. So now, we have a good amount to work with. Now let's lay it out and see where we want it to go on our actual clutch. Today, I'm gonna have a little overhang. So the first step is to start gluing, and I suggest gluing the front part first. I do them about every half inch to inch. Okay. So, the front is all glued down, now let's move on to one the side. So I'm gonna glue the whole way around until the edge of the flap. So you've glued down the first side of the front. Now let's do the opposite side, repeat the same thing. A little puffs of glue as you go along. The inspiration for this clutch was actually Christopher Kane's Spring 2011 runway. So, this is kind of our rendition of that but also for fall 2012, Erdem showed beautiful lace sheath dresses, so love those two. It's now time to do the front portion. So I'm gonna open up my clutch and give it a little bend if it's rigid. I'm gonna repeat the exact same steps. So, now we're going to glue down this line right here, right at the top. Now it's time to start tailoring the edges. And what I'm going to do is actually give it a nice little trim, wrap this section over, give us a really nice clean edge. Now it's time to go onto the fold which can be a tricky part. Use this fold here as a guide and cut along that. Repeat the same thing with the other side. Now we're going to glue down this right here to the inside of the clutch. I repeat the same thing that we did on the flap. So just a nice long line and press it down. The front is all glued down. This side is all glued down. All we have to worry about are these two ends. So what you're going to do is use the purse as a guide and trim very carefully in a straight of a line as you can. We are almost finished. The very last thing you have to do is cut out a little hole for the clasp. Take your scissors and cut through a few pieces of netting right here on the lace. Alright there you go, you have now made your very own neon lace clutch with just a few simple items. I hope you guys enjoyed todays, DIY. I'm Allison McNamara.
