We've been rocking the worn-out, seen-better-days pair of Vans that's hung out in our closet since college but always as a casual, comfy option — never because it was actually stylish. Then, a funny thing happened. We started seeing lookbooks cross our desks with models styled in slip-on sneaks, like these pics from Madewell , and Céline released an ultraluxe version that bloggers and editors flipped for. (@MoshaMosha tweeted some on-the-ground reporting back in March: "Grace Coddington grocery shopping in her Céline sneakers. Love my hood.") Suddenly, we were eyeing those faded, threadbare kicks with new eyes.
We've rounded up some of our favorite pairs, from $55 original Vans to a price-upon-request pony-hair style. Whether or not you want to head to the skate park after you've put them on is a personal choice.
In peppy pink, these Mother of Pearl kicks ($395) give you absolutely zero reason to be afraid of bees.
Sneakers specifically not made for athletic activities include anything suede, like these wine-hued Vince kicks ($225).
Without a doubt, these are going to be the most comfortable pair of Jimmy Choos ($495) in your closet.
If you like your footwear done in buttery leather, Maison Martin Margiela is taking care of you. Its sneaker ($595) looks leather-like but weekend-ready.
Kenzo's fabulous flying-tiger print needs space in your closet. Our preferred style vehicle? These easy Vans ($110).
The only way to make leopard more glam? Do it in a metallic sheen like these Saint Laurent sneaks ($495).
We always knew there was a tomboy side to Tory Burch. The designer did an easy, breezy sneaker ($125) in a beetle print straight from biology class.
Céline IDed the trend early and is releasing a new batch for Fall/Winter. It's only available in stores, and we're seriously debating whether this black pony-hair pair (price upon request) is worth a trip . . .
For fashion-lovers who are all about standing out, this shoe's for you. Marc by Marc Jacobs did the shoe of the season ($248) in a bold blue print.
Go pure, old-school leopard. Wear this Steve Madden pair ($100) like you would on a neutral Monday straight through the weekend.
Wanting to experiment with adding a sneaker to your day-to-day repertoire without investing too much? Zara's printed pair ($50) is your perfect starter shoe.
Layered lace takes this Givenchy pair ($650) away from androgynous territory.
For ladies who have always found sneakers lacking in the glam department, Michael Michael Kors does a version in glittery silver ($55, originally $110).
