I sometimes do. It depends on where it came from. Some stores have products that dyes and inks have more skin irritation that others.

you should ALWAYS wash new clothes before wearing them. I actaully wrote a paper on this for orgo lab... many fabrics contain chemcials such polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and formaldehyde, which companies use because it makes the fabric stain free, wrinkle free, flame retardant and disinfected. The only problem is that these chemicals are gases at room temperature and when found in large enough concentrations, become harmful to humans. PBDEs impair memory, learning, affect thyroid hormones, and can cause neurodevelopmental effects on unborn babies. Many of the chemicals have been found to be carcinogen, which makes it easier to understand why more and more people are developing cancer, becuase of the abundance of chemicals around us. P.S. The "new car smell" is also full of chemicals, which is why you should air our a new car or always buy used.

I do sometimes now... ever since that one episode of House where the kids got sick from the pesticides on their jeans. (Extreme case, I know. Fictional, too.)

I wash or dry clean EVERYTHING before I wear it. I'm super picky about that.

I don't wash anything, and the underwear I usually buy is eithered ordered or they'll have the plastic thing on it that prevents theft from occuring so nobody can try it on. But other than underwear I'd probably never wash anything before wearing it I think most Americans are too obsessed with germs, and like someone said earlier I've never gotten sick from wearing new clothes so I think most of you guys are paranoid. Not only that but washing new clothes is so not eco-friendly, it's a waste of water and soap.

It really depends on where I got the piece from. If it's a goodwill find then yes I wash it! But other stores I don't really worry about it. Maybe I should though.....

Nope. Sometimes, the whole point of purchasing something is to get me through until the next laundry day. HA!

I agree about the garment never looking as good once its washed. Especially with summer clothes. However, always wash new undergarments.

I confess, I don't. You can't beat that brand new feel that you will never get again when you wash it. (I agree that it depends on where I bought it.)However, if it looks like it was tried on before I bought it, I will handwash it in the sink.

Always wash something if you bought it off the clearance rack. A lot of stuff gets put there because it was returned to the store.
