The crinkled foil invitation for Dries Van Noten's Spring 2014 show was just the first sign of many spectacular things to come. Guests arrived to a runway flanked with gilded shutters and enhanced by the deep bass strum of Radiohead's Colin Greenwood — and that's saying nothing of the clothes. When the models emerged, they lived up to the opulent presentation. Gold overtook the runway. In a tour de force of texture, the metallic was pleated, ruffled, embroidered, and transformed into explosive abstract flowers.
When the flowers weren't gold, they were featured in prints. A stark departure from the somber palette of last Spring's grunge revival, florals made their return but with a more opulent edge via silk and brocade.
