After dressing the likes of Angelina Jolie at last night's Oscars, Elie Saab turned his hand to more subdued daywear for his Fall ready-to-wear collection. Yes, there were chiffon gowns and sparkly evening confections to close the show, but the majority of the show centered on daywear, minidresses, jumpsuits, and furs in shades of green, burgundy, black, and mauve.
Rather than embellishment, Saab chose print and degradé patterns to lift his trademark one-color looks. The work of Mark Rothko was his starting point, but the finished look also included florals and embroidery.
Those who love Saab's classic designs will no doubt be happy to hear that he extended his handbag line extensively this season, using luxury leathers and reptile skins in his trademark jewel tones to create a new set of It bags for his adoring fans.
