Fab Flash: Juicy Couture Sues Victoria's Secret Pink

Fab Flash: Juicy Couture Sues Victoria's Secret Pink

Yesterday, Juicy Couture filed a lawsuit accusing Victoria's Secret Pink of using similar ideas and icons, such as their trademark seat-of-the-pants Juicy logo (below). Also underscored was the fact that Victoria's Secret is selling apparel wrapped in the shape of lollipops and ice cream cones, mimicking the packaging used in Juicy's Sweet Shoppe.

The suit claims that Victoria's Secret is trying to capitalize on the success of Juicy Couture, which raked in a whopping $420 million in sales last year. The company is asking for the offending clothing to be destroyed and to be awarded triple damages. Victoria's Secret has made no comment, but do you think the lawsuit has merit?

Ok then they should sue every other "junior" clothing maker in the world. I once bought pants at Mandees that said kitten on the butt. (Ashamed) But anyway, are they going to sue Mandees? Stuuuupid!

Who couldn't see this dumb ass lawsuit coming on JUICY's part? First of all, a billboard across your ass is for the teeny boppers and even my daughter(13) would tell you that look "is not what's hot in the streets!" As for myself, I am a grown ass woman. Both the PINK line by VS and the Juicy Couture track suits have always been way overpriced prices of fabric. For that same $200 some pretentious socialite could plop down on either one, I could put together and entire outfit AND take myself out to dinner AND still have change left over! Hello? Even after raking in 420k last year, I guess you can never have too much, right? GREEDY COUTURE!

I have always thought how much the VS Pink line looks like Juicy. But to sue them for it?

haha this is just funny. publicity stunt complements of Juicy. there is no way they can lay claim on having words across the ass of a pair of track pants. presumptuous and arrogant.

Maybe juicy can also sue Forever 21 for copying their ruffle dress lol.

I think the lawsuit is not going to hold water. VS Pink does not use the word juicy at all so how is it copying? Maybe Loreal should sue Maybelline next because their lipsticks come in almost identical tubes lol. Everything looks like everything nowadays so I think everyone should get over it and buy from whoever they want to buy. I personally am a juicy girl because I see too many 13 yr olds wearing VS pink.

Guess is doing the same thing, even Sanrio store is copying some Juicy styles now. They would have to sue all the other brands if they really want to make a point

I hope that is costs Juicy a fortune to lose!!

I think Christian Louboutin should sue brand/designer that stole his idea with the red sole because that's something very original and unique not like JC. =/I love Juicy but they're going a wee too far.

i think it's about time. juicy has made their empire on these cute ideas, victorias secret did not.

i asked my dad who is a lawyer and he said that none of these suits, the juicy/vs, phat/vs have any merit. oddly, the one that does is the vs/macys since the stuff is so similar in style and name that a customer could indeed mistake the items for victoria's secret when they are not. but the commonality of what juicy, vs, and phat produces invalidates any lawsuit about trademark infringement. i highly doubt juicy was able to trademark the name across the butt or phat was able to trade mark the emblem (which has been around since like the middle ages). and i also highly doubt juicy was able to trademark their packaging. gee, a heart-shaped box, how original. i cannot believe that the people at juicy and phat had nothing better to do with their time than file a meaningless and meritless lawsuit.

people have been making slutty sweatsuits since the dawn of time (or at least the seventies), and people have put stupid writing on the butts of said slutty sweatsuits for almost as long.

it's so stupid pand like that where made years ago maybe the packaging thing is awkward but the seat-of-the-pants thing is stupid!

haha i love it glampop, that is so true. im sick of 10 year olds trying to act 20 and 40 year olds trying to act 20.

This is so redic! I can't believe they are wasting their time with this. VS pants are much cuter, and the idea of "Juicy" written on the back of pants worn by 12 year old girls in middle school is appalling. Juicy should stop making them, period.

I suppose if you're rolling in money and can afford Juicy you would be for this suit, but as for us average, broke 20-somethings, VS let s us buy cute stuff and not pay a month's rent for it. I love the PINK line, and not because it looks like Juicy...but because it's comfy and cute. Words are on the butt of pants at Wal-Mart, sorority girls have pants with their letters on them, High School cheerleaders wear them with their team name on them...this suit is about 4 years too late. It's a young look and yes, once you're a certain age you look stupid wearing these in public. IMO wearing sweats in public is inappropriate past high school, anyway.

I wish there was a fashion court where I could sue the people who actually wear these sweatsuits in public--especially with writing on the ass. Maybe I would enjoy being a lawyer if I could prosecute crimes against fashion.

I love Juicy, but this is pretty absurd...VS is not the only brand that makes similar sweatsuits.
