FabSugar Exclusive! Catherine Malandrino's Tips For Holiday Dressing

FabSugar Exclusive! Catherine Malandrino's Tips For Holiday Dressing

One thing's for sure about FabSugar in 2007: Catherine Malandrino was a fan favorite. From celebs, to you guys, to us guys, I think we can all agree that Malandrino is a fabulous fashion house and the woman is an icon. One fine day, Madame Catherine and I had a chat over eclairs in a chic cafe in Paris. She enlightened me on how to dress for the holidays and I for one am taking her advice to heart. Ok I fib! CM and I didn't chat over eclairs — Fab can dream right? — but she did provide us with some holiday dressing insight. Kiss kiss!

How can you dress for a holiday party without looking like every other festive girl in the room?

Never wear black, be daring and wear a BOLD color. Always wear heels.

What are holiday dressing “do's” and “don’ts?”

Holiday Do’s: be sensual, wear textures from feathers to paillettes, and mix it with light fabrics such as tulle, chiffon and organza. Always prefer a dress. Holiday Don’ts: no sneakers, no black, and no jeans, never go casual!

How can you modernize your favorite old party dress?

You can modernize your favorite old party dress with bold graphic colorful accessories, an oversized necklace or cover your arm with big bangles. Wear colorful high heel sandals.

To learn more,

What are some fresh holidays colors you can work with? Not your typical, red and green...

Fresh holiday colors are yellow, turquoise, and orange. Think holidays in the Tropics, bare feet on the beach under the sun.

What’s a good dress up alternative for girls who don’t like to wear dresses or get all fancied up?

A good dress alternative is mini shorts or Bermuda shorts.

What are you doing and wearing on New Years?!

I will be in Paris celebrating in an old Parisian Palace with friends, music and champagne.

What are some cold weather style tips?

Wear a fur hat and fur accessories to add a touch of glamour to your winter season.

I wear fur and love it. For those that are against it, they have every right. But I have every right to wear my mink. End.of.story.

Oh for the love of god here we go again with the PETA fanatics. If someone wants to wear fur it's their business.

I'll admit to having fur, but it's vintage...it belonged to my grandmother. I very rarely wear it, but it is warm, and it gives me some of her glamour (she was a very stylish lady!). I wish I could work feathers. I always end up looking like I got the raw end of a pet store stampede.

oh...and I don't find it remotely glamorous.

I must admit this resurgence of fur is making me quite ill. It's inhumane and disgusting on ALL levels.

i think fur does add that glam look SOMETIMES. but most of the time, i'm not sure what it is, but it just looks downright ugly. i'm opting for sequins and diamonds to glam up my look :o)

I love CM, her dresses are so beautiful and she has an eye for a woman's body and what will make it look good.

she might be an icon but she wears fur, so that tells me there is something wrong with her!!!

phillygirl, I totally agree with you. Wearing fur is repugnant and inhumane. And I wouldn't even wear faux fur, not because of ethical reasons, but because it does not look glamorous and is really not attractive. And while I like color, I also think you can definitely do black. There are tons of LBDs with an unexpected twist. And you can add accessories to make it your own. It'll never be out of style.

You're right, imahoopie, I meant paillettes — thanks for pointing that out! :) xo

"... wear textures from feathers to palettes" Um, I think you meant to write paillettes, no? If not, could you please explain what a palette is in relation to clothing textures? I have never heard of it and neither has Google.

Faux fur is ok :) Yellow is so in this winter too :)

I disagree with the no black rule. I think black is very classy - and I think its all about accessorizing. If a person wants to wear black, they can brighten their outfit with shoes or belts, whatnot.
