Here's How Brad Goreski Keeps Celebrities Looking Chic All Winter Long

Attempting to combat laziness and comfy style ruts once Winter rolls around is no easy task. It's just so cold, and sweats are so cozy, and dragging yourself out from underneath the warmth of your covers makes it especially hard to think in the morning.

With big fashion challenges like these, it's always wise to ask for expert advice, and perhaps there's no one better suited to give it than celebrity stylist Brad Goreski. He's the man behind well-dressed ladies like Lea Michele, Sarah Hyland, and Jenna Dewan Tatum, and aside from knowing how to stay chic and on trend in the chilliest of temps, he's also into affordable fashion. Brad recently partnered with Marshalls, helping us noncelebs achieve designer style for less. "I think if you're getting your pieces at a really great price, you can kind of wear it with a little less fear and more joy," he told us, adding that the store is a great place to try new trends without spending a ton of dough.

But what we truly wanted to know was Brad's tips for keeping up fashion-girl appearances all season long — even on those days we're tempted to wear blankets as ponchos. Read on for his advice, and then check out these Winter fashion hacks for a few cute outfit ideas.

Don't worry — you don't need to ditch your cozy knits. But this year, rather than opt for an oversize sweater, look for one that's well fitted to your body. "It's not about something that's super boxy and hiding your shape," said Brad. "But something that really highlights it."

When it comes to shopping for a coat, go beyond the basics. "Be more adventurous with some other details — a little bit of trim on the collar or fabric that has a little bit of shine to it," Brad advised.

It was a chic look last year, and coat layering will be big this season too. "It's a great look to layer a camel car coat with a denim jacket, and then maybe a down-filled vest and a great scarf," said Brad. He also believes in varying your outerwear look throughout the Winter in order to mix things up.

Embrace Tights

Brad's all about tights in different patterns, shapes, and colors — especially if they're made by Spanx. "One of my favorite things that came along over the last couple of years is that Spanx came out with really great tights," Brad revealed. "They end up doing double duty — you get a little bit of shape and you also get the warmth."

As for tips to "break yourself out of the black-tights box," as he refers to it? "Maybe try a different color, whether it's a navy, a deep green, a cranberry, a chevron print, something with a little dot, or maybe a back seam."

Don't Splurge on Shoes

Don't Splurge on Shoes

"You don't really want to be spending a thousand dollars on a pair of shoes that are going to get destroyed by salt and slush," Brad warned. The stylist suggests investing in some good boots, but save your shoe fund for chic pairs in the Spring and Summer.

"The best bag to have is a structured tote, maybe in a leather or patent leather," he said. As always, Brad advocates for a little flair, whether through a fun color or interesting lining.

Don't Feel the Need to Stay Covered Up

"When you're dressing for Winter to go out, you don't want to cover your entire body. You want to at least be showing some skin, whether it's your arms, your cleavage, or your legs — which can be a little risky in the Winter. But if you're going from 'curb to cocktail' as I like to call it, sometimes the risk is worth it."
