From finding the perfect pair of rain boots on a budget for our executive editor Nancy Einhart to outfitting clean, classic wardrobe essentials for YumSugar's assistant editor, Camilla Salem, we're revealing their questions and breaking down our answers right here. Stylish (Sturdy!) Heels

Q: I love wearing heels to work, but they often get rough and tumbled while walking in the city. Can you recommend some really good, sturdy, and fashionable heels that can take all the stress of city treading?

A: A good heel can be hard to find, especially when you're searching for one that's walkable. These are the key things to keep in mind when looking for the right shoe to pull double duty (function and fashion): a platform and a stacked heel will wear a whole lot easier than a narrow stiletto. The platform adds stability, as does a wider, stacked heel, making it easier to stomp around in — and a whole lot more comfortable, too. For Winter, I'd suggest a great platform bootie that can stand up against the weather, but as we head into Spring and Summer, opt for a wedge, or a cool wood-heeled sandal. For the ultimate safeguard against wear and tear (especially for your pricey investment heels), head to your cobbler and have him resole the bottoms with added protection. These heeled options run the gamut of great office-perfect loafers to a cool on-trend bootie, and a pretty sandal to slip into later on.

Wardrobe Essentials

Q: What are the basics that I need in my closet to put together classy, simple, clean outfits for everyday?

A: Ah, the basics. Today, we think of our closet essentials a little differently, as old rules are traded for new classics. For a no-fail everyday wardrobe, always look for pieces that you can rework and reuse together.

What to look for: With that in mind, we've compiled a cool crop of separates that you can change up easily. The mainstays you should look for are a great pair of jeans, a blazer, a knit layer, a white blouse, a neutral skirt, and a day-to-night dress. For footwear, keep it simple for starters — look for a wearable everyday ankle boot, a great flat, and a heel to dress up your outfits. From there, add in bold colors, statement accessories, and on-trend items to transform the things you already own.

Winter Style With Some Sex Appeal

Q: Sometimes with the layers, heavy coats, and weather-wrecked hair, Winter feels like the unsexiest of seasons. How can I put the va-va-voom in my cold-weather ensembles?

A: We hear you — Winter can wreak havoc on our style and take the fun out of getting dressed. To beat it, we look for sexy, playful elements that we can easily incorporate into our layers. Add the following key pieces to your arsenal. Lacy or sheer blouses are a perfect way to up the flirt factor under a cardigan or a blazer. You can also further the sex appeal with a great miniskirt — it's just as easy to layer up a curve-hugging mini over tights as it is to throw on your jeans, and it's a whole lot sexier. Swap out your denim for a slick pair of leather or faux leather pants — the texture is oh-so-sexy and edgy, especially when you ditch your worn Winter boots for a pair of platform booties. To finish, look for ways to add a little glamour — even a pair of statement earrings can add the outfit excitement you're looking for.

Rain Boots on a Budget

Q: I need a new pair of rain boots and want something that won't break the bank (under $50), doesn't have a heel, will match lots of stuff, and still look stylish.

A: There are a great variety of budget-friendly rain boot options out there. I'd look for something comfy and classic in a dark green, black, or navy that you can be sure will go just as well with your denim as it will with a little printed dress. Gap, Sperry, Madewell, and Urban Outfitters are great places to start the search; they have great deals and their aesthetic is usually classic with a dose of the on-trend, like a great lace-up detailing. We hunted down some great options that come in under budget, and just a few more that stay under $100.

Cool Color Combos to Try Now

Q: What spunky color combinations should I be rocking right now?

A: We love an unexpected color combo! For Winter, we're all about a citrus yellow to perk up cozy seasonal grays. Try topping a neoprene skirt with a fitted gray sweatshirt for a little wow factor. If neons are out of your comfort zone, start simple with a cool denim piece, then add a fiery-red pop. A chambray button-down and red skinny jeans deliver a dose of cool that's easy to pull off. As for the more color-confident, go bold with a surprising navy and hot pink pairing. These two colors feel ultrafresh and play off each other perfectly.
