The Commes des Garcon for Speedo suit was unveiled yesterday. Designed exclusively for the USA team by Rei Kawakubo, the suit will no doubt help intimidate the US oponents. Kawakubo told WWD, "I was interested in expressing the energy and the power that comes from the spirit, embodied in the meaning of the calligraphy, together with the will to win for one's country, symbolized by the iconic flag of the U.S.A.".
Apparently, among the interesting cast of characters in Yohji Yamamoto's Spring 09 show, was filmmaker Steve McQueen. McQueen told the associated press, ""I heard the audience gasp a bit when I came in.". With everyone completely enthralled by Yamamoto's castings, we're wondering which of the fashion press will be the first to look at the clothing from the show.
Retail stocks fell 3.5 percent this week and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped to its lowest point this year. Retailers are definitely in the thick of it now and consumers, faced with rising food and gas prices, are expected to keep cutting back on their retail habits.

Pia Stanchina made a small one-off eco-friendly collection of digitally printed, delicate silk pieces (right) that sparked quite a bit of attention. The young designer is off to a strong start.
