The Lanvin Resort 2009 collection managed to pull together all of the key Resortwear signifiers in one fell swoop. The collection, as described by Elbaz, was a "Frenchified take on American sportswear", one that at its more glamorous moments referenced the 1930's and at its more whimsical ones, referenced a glitzy Hawaii vacation by way of accessories and printed cotton-things. Elbaz said of the collection, "It's about the original idea of Cruise, a fantasy vacation."
Vogue.com writes today on Tom Ford's remembrance of designer Yves Saint Laurent. Though Saint Laurent's design sense has been the focus since his passing, Ford reminds us that the designer was as revolutionary a business man as he was a designer.
In other YSL news, Christie's will host a YSL vintage couture auction on July 2nd in New York. It will be the first multi-owner couture sale for Christie's and will take place as part of the interiors sale. The auctions will feature YSL clothing and jewels spanning nearly every decade of the couturier's career.
During a community cocktail party in San Francisco, one of our Network Partners, Cuffington, was wearing a lovely white smoking jacket (pictured right) that turned out to be an Elizabeth and James number. The brand, headed by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, has recently announced an expansion to the line by way of jewelry. Priced between 65 and 700 dollars (in typical Olsen twin style, this means mixing costume and fine jewelry like it 'aint no thing) the metal cuffs and turquoise beaded necklaces will hit stores in September.
