A Glimpse at Lee Alexander McQueen's Last Works: A Dress, and a Rug Collection

>> Although
the last Alexander McQueen collection touched by the designer's hands was shown in March for Fall 2010, it appears that the last dress he worked on was not shown as part of that collection, but rather made especially for his longtime friend and muse, model and socialite Annabelle Neilson.  Although a search turned up no pictures of the occasion, Neilson did wear the dress — a silk charmeuse gown with a collar of silvered feathers — once, at Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball in June.

McQueen also completed a small rug collection shortly before his death »

Shortly before he passed away, McQueen also completed a six-piece collection — four rugs, two pillows — for the Rug Company, the product of three years of design and production. W magazine reports: "For one rug, in a military brocade design, McQueen was inspired by a gold bullion-embroidered coat from his Fall 2001 runway show; for another, he mined his iconic skull pattern in striking white and silver." A third rug borrows an image of hummingbirds flying in the night sky from his Spring 2009 collection — see below.
