No, I don't need glasses to look smart; however, I do need glasses or contacts (I wear both, but obviously not at the same time) to see. :P

No - what the hell?

I wear em because I can't see without them lol!! I do look intelligent in my sexy specs.

Contacts are overrated. I played cello and couldn't read the music sheets clearly since my eyeballs are irregularly shaped, so back to glasses for me. The right glasses on the right girl has the same effect as the right pair of shoes. In my case, they bring out my cheekbones and soft clear skin. And, as a classical musician and alumnae of an all-girls high school, can you say sexy librarian? gulp!

Although I like the look of some glasses, I think it's silly to wear them if you don't need them. And I certainly wouldn't since I got laser eye surgery so that I didn't have to wear glasses or contacts!

I don't know if my glasses make me look smarter, but they do make me look less clumsy and squinty, because without them I can't see clearly more than two feet in front of my face. It's kind of annoying that people can wear them as accessories once and a while and I have to wear corrective lenses for the rest of my life.

I agree with tulleandtea... wearing glasses to look 'nerd chic' doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look silly and vain. If you have to try so hard with accessories to look smart there must be a lot to make up for, lol. Intelligent conversation is a much more becoming accessory.

See I'm the opposite of everyone here... I have excellent vision, but happen to really love the way I look in glasses! I wore a super cute pair of weak prescription glasses the other day from Anthropologie and got stopped by random people on the streets of Manhattan to give me compliments! It was the coolest thing! So while I don't necessarily care about looking smarter-- I think they're an awesome fashion accessory.

I wear them because without them I cannot see! I like my glasses but sometimes I wish I could have the freedom of not needing them. And I can't do contacts for long periods of time.

I really do need them but they became a really big trend when I was a sophmore in high school about three years ago.

I recently got glasses for driving and a friend of mine I don't see very often asked me if my glasses were real or just for fun!!! I thought that was absolutely ridiculous. I don't agree with dying hair or wearing fake accessories, either. Why try so hard to be someone you're not?

I write a blog all about spectacles (www.spectaclesblog.com)and I hear this all the time. People do wear glasses for fashion alone and I've just posted an article about 1925 in Paris when they did the same! At university, I sometimes wore glasses but without any glass at all an it does freak people out when you rub your eye throught the "glass". Come and have a look at the wealth of info and news about specs at Spectacles Blog

I wear glasses because everything is a bit blurry without them, not to look smarter. They're big black rimmed glasses with very sparkly Chanel double Cs on the sides. I get at least one compliment a day from someone about how amazing they look on me. I guess I have the whole geek chic thing happening.

Sometimes when I was younger... not anymore though. Contacts for me! It's much more comfortable and convenient. One thing that kind of gets on my nerves, however, is when people wear glasses as an "accessory", like wearing the frames with no lenses because they have 20/20 vision. It just screams trying too hard!

I have to wear glasses to see but when I have a big night out I'll pop in my contact lenses instead. While I love the glasses I have, I think I look better without them. :)

Me too, emalove ;) I usually just wear my contacts anyway.

I already AM smart ;) Seriously, though, I'm pretty near-sighted and have to wear glasses. No other reason involved.

No way. I have glasses and I wear my contacts so I do not have to wear them.

I need them to see the world around me... And I really don't think wearing glasses make anyone look smarter. That's just my opinion.
