Alber Elbaz has never had a problem with glamour, and for Lanvin Resort 2014, he supplied it with an opulent flourish, with subtlety, and, most importantly, with a wink. Lamé brocades came dotted with gold and copper sequins, colorful snakeskin covered sleek trench coats and boxy tops, and paisley-print shifts were accented with chunky scarab-shaped necklaces and brooches. In effect, Elbaz invoked the flair of a modern-day Cleopatra, only to fuse and build upon it further with the bold palette and regality of an Indian maharajah.
His quintessential black and white pieces were also there — some in sportier perforated leather finishes, some simple and straightforward — all topped with oversize, numbered gold pendants that even hip-hop artist Flavor Flav would approve of. And at the middle of his Resort spectrum came a bold red strapless dress: a number that proved structural, clean, and perfect for the woman who doesn't need more than a sultry hue to be glamorous.
