With fall right around the corner, it's time to start transitioning your summer wardrobe into the cooler temperatures. One of my favorite never fail tricks for styling my favorite summer pieces into fall is layering. I like to add accessories, outerwear or other pieces to summer frocks, skirts or shorts that would usually be reserved for warm weather.
Here are a few key pieces that I always look forward to using when layering during the fall. You can also use a combination of these items together and they'll be sure to liven up any outfit.
Tights are great for layering because they can be worn under a dress, skirt or even shorts during cooler temperatures. Aside from keeping your legs warm, they are stylish and can oftentimes make an outfit look more put together.
Although they can probably be worn all year long (depending on the style) I find that most people like wearing boots in the fall. Whether they are knee-highs or booties, there is no doubt that they are popular once the lower temperatures hit. What could be worn with sandals or wedges during the summer can now be worn with the right pair of boots well into fall.
Scarves & Knitted Hats
Scarves and knitted hats are the perfect accessories to add to a basic top or dress and provide a little extra warmth when needed. I always find that this is the easiest way to add a pop of color to an outfit. By choosing a cute pattern or bright hue you can wear them with neutral colored wardrobe pieces.
Blazers and cardigans can be great for wearing over a sleeveless or short-sleeved dress. They not only provide coverage but oftentimes make an outfit look more polished.
On more cooler days, a cardigan might not cut it. A leather jacket or a wool coat are great and can even liven up a simple t-shirt and jeans outfit. A peacoat also looks very chic when worn over a dress and a pair of cute tights.
Now, instead of putting away those summer pieces for next year, you can layer and extend their wear between seasons.
