Lela Rose's collections are never not ladylike, but the clothes she sent down the runway for Fall 2014 were impeccably tailored, romantic works, some of which looked fit for royalty — or at least a first lady.
Throughout the show, there were gentle reminders, however unintended they might have been, that Michelle Obama is on Rose's well-heeled list of customers. Who would look better in the spate of cream-colored dresses and gowns with metallic flowers printed on them? Whose skin would look fresher against the deep fuchsia of a strapless gown with a full skirt that came toward the end of the show?
The colors here ranged from those cream and pink shades to blue and gray, and while many looks were predominantly monochrome, Rose did a lot with surface decoration. And for a finishing touch, she used feathers (do we smell a trend?) to accent the bottoms of luxe t-shirts and to decorate the front of one gown.
