Los Angeles Fashion Week: Julie Clancey Spring 2009

Aside from a handful of somewhat basic frocks there are two garments that deserve mention from Julie Clancey's Spring 09 collection--overall, the better of her designs veered toward Art Deco in their inspiration. Most notable were the two silk, beaded frocks/kaftans that came down the runway in white and orange. Orange certainly might be the color of Spring 09 but, more than that, we think this dress is rather timeless and chic. What drew us to this piece, over the others, is the Art Deco beading in the bodice and the easy loose fabric that made it look perfect for both formal and informal occasions. The second design that inspired something more than a 'mhmm' in us was another orange frock, this one designed a la Rodarte. We're not claiming any kind of copyright infringement, a chiffon frock is not a new concept in fashion, but wanted to note that this style of dress, presumably made popular by Rodarte, has cropped up from London to Los Angeles this season.
