Maison Martin Margiela's masked crusaders were at it again at the label's Fall 2013 Haute Couture show. This time plucked with flowers, dripping with paint, and encased in crystals, the face coverings complemented the creations while adding drama to the collection's more subtle offerings (though calling knee-high boots and cuffed boyfriend jeans sans blouse "subtle" may be a bit of an understatement!).
The botanically inspired lineup marched down the runway with an edge that's not typically reserved for blossoms. Enhanced by brooding jewel tones — and again, those masks — the designs were both romantic and dark at once. Transitioning into heavy colorblock leather separates, dichotomy was once again at play. Can leather look relaxed and slouchy? Margiela answered "yes." And we wouldn't disagree.
