It's a Bright New Day at Marc by Marc Jacobs
It's the dawn of a new era at Marc by Marc Jacobs. Fall 2014 marked the debut of Katie Hillier as creative director and
Luella Bartley as head of design for the secondary line of Marc Jacobs, who's focusing on his namesake main line full throttle. So what did the dynamic duo bring us? Clothes that the cool girls want to wear, as evidenced by show attendees Alexa Chung, Solange Knowles, Sarah Sophie Flicker, and Sofia Coppola.
Oversize bow capelets were the sweet finishing touch on many of the looks, but a more subversive edge was growling through the collection with motorcycle-racing-influenced designs, bandanas pulled up over models' faces, and punk plaids. At the finale of the show, models climbed defiantly onto a wooden platform facing into the void above the crowd. But after the models disappeared into backstage, and Luella and Katie came out for their first runway bow at the line, the normally reserved crowd dissolved into wild cheering, whistling, and clapping (OK, squealing too). Consider that a debut well done.
