Entering a new product category can be a big task for any designer, but Matthew Williamson let his customers guide the design of the leather handbags he's introducing for Fall 2013.
"Listening to my clients, I know how busy they are and how much goes on day-to-day — so it was really a reaction to this,"
Williamson told Vogue UK. "I wanted to design a collection which would appeal to their lifestyle."
That collection includes five styles — two roomy totes, a drawstring bucket bag, a small crossbody bag on a chain, and a pentagon-shaped carryall — suited to do just that. The bags, which will retail from £395 to £1,300 (about $596 to $1,963 at current exchange), fuse textured grain leather and calfskin with the jacquards Williamson uses in his clothing collection.
They're set to debut in September at Williamson's store in London and at select retailers around the world. But that doesn't mean you can't ogle them here in the gallery.
