Mindy Kaling Helped Design Her Cannes Look

Mindy Kaling has many talents: writing, acting, and the ability to make a bathing suit fly off the shelves the moment she rocks it. But something else this girl boss can now add to her list? Designer — at least partially. When we sat down with the costume designer for her hit show, The Mindy Project, (and, more recently, Pitch Perfect 2) he let it slip that the star herself came to him with the idea for her Cannes 2015 look.

"Mindy has a very particular aesthetic, and we'll talk about silhouette and color," Salvador Perez told us. "For instance, in this look she wanted to do a colorblock, so we're doing two different colors on the dress. So she gives me her concept and then I work within that concept to design."

Mindy's input didn't end there. "This last time, she had the time off, so she actually went to the fabric store with me and we chose the fabrics together," Salvador spilled. "Taking her to a fabric store was like taking a little kid to a candy store. She was like, 'Oh my god, I want this but I want this, I want that!' Now after three years of working together, she knows that the possibilities are endless. She can have anything she wants."

In short, we're jealous. Scroll through to see how the duo's Cannes creation came out.

The bottom also featured a long train and a leg slit.

Salvador expressed his excitement about making the outfit: "She can get a gown from anybody, from any fashion house in the country. But she comes to me because she knows her gown will be fit beautifully. It's very flattering."

We love how Mindy accessorized her colorful look with some silver drop earrings.

Mindy also Instagrammed a photo of the details, which included "over three thousand hand sewn crystals."

She also confirmed what we had originally thought: that this gown is actually two pieces rather than one.

Well-done, Mindy and Salvador. Perhaps you can collaborate on designing something for us in the near future?
