When it comes to mixing and matching patterns and textures, no one does it quite like Custo Barcelona. The line, from Spanish brothers Custo and David Dalmau, is known for wild colors and patchwork styles, which sometimes work and sometimes aren't so easy on the eyes.
The Spring 2007 collection, shown Thursday at New York Fashion Week, is best consumed in small doses. I loved the use of bright yet muted colors against gold accents, as well as brocade-like patterns that evoke exotic bazaars. However, I thought the line overdosed a bit on colliding stripe designs, and I also could live without the pointy elfin booties. But at least no one can accuse Custo Barcelona of being dull.
