Naea Amanda Handwoven Hobo: Love It or Hate It?

Barneys is exclusively selling this Naea Amanda Handwoven Hobo ($250), made by casting director Amanda Mackey and her daughter, to support women in Ethiopia. I admire its philanthropic nature so perhaps I'd carry it on a laid-back day. Would you?

its great that they want to help the unemployed women, however, it is sad if they use that as front or excuse to get the labor and pay pennies for it. if the $250 this bag is priced for is actually used for these women and not for the mackey profit, sure i'll buy. other wise shame on them.

Hey, I actually have this bag, it's really nice and super cute. BUT the only problem i have is because it's hand-woven, it kind of falls apart. The thread comes undone VERY easily. My bag has pieces of thread sticking out all over. I have a ton of designer bags and I take care of all of them. Its not like I wore this bag and threw it everywhere, I used it for an hour when I realized it was falling apart. I wish I could say it was worth it, but for the price and falling apart, I wouldnt recommend purchasing it. If i knew this was going to happen, I would have saved my money.

I like it and I love that it supports women in Ethiopia, but it kinda looks like something you could buy at Target...

It looks like it cost about $7. Not $250

I love that it supports a cause, but the only time I'd carry this is on a vacation somewhere warm/tropical/beachy (during the day or for a casual night out).

its handmade and it supports a good cause, plus it looks chic. What more could anyone want?

I'm with all the likes... but not for the price. I could make it for $15 with my own, JUST FOR ME, fabulous fabric AND probably make it reversible... hmm there's a thought :)

I like it, but it looks like Barneys is still looking to make an astronomical amount of money off of this. It irritates me how so many companies will act like they're doing something so philanthropic, but they're just really tacking on an additional $25 to the regular price rather than donating actual profits.

I agree and it has a bad shape.

I like it but would NEVER pay that price for it. And Ur Momm, it looks like a $20 bag!

yeah, it's too much for what it is. even if it is for a good cause, i can't give that much to a charity with my budget, let along spend my money on a bag like that. i don't buy bags often, and i usually try to buy cheap or save or beg for gifts... and i wouldn't beg for this.

i would rather give money directly to charity then buy this extremely overpriced bag! my friend made me a bag like that and it cost less than $10 for fabric.
