Product to Try: Tinted Moisturizer

Until recently, I never understood the appeal of tinted moisturizers. To me, this product, which combines foundation and moisturizer into one, seemed to suffer from the shampoo-plus-conditioner problem—that is, they were neither good moisturizers nor good concealers. All of the ones I tried just dried out my face and left my skin looking very uneven.

But after stumbling upon a DuWop version I really liked, I decided to give tinted moisturizers a second chance, and now, I'm hooked. When done right, this low-maintenance beauty product is truly amazing. A good tinted moisturizer goes on light and provides just enough coverage so you don't need foundation, basically eliminating a step from my beauty regimen. Here are some great tinted moisturizers to try.

DuWop Revolution Face, $28, available here. This SPF 15 moisturizer gives your skin a velvety, slightly matte finish and comes in four shades.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, $40, available here. Available in seven great shades with just a touch of color, Mercier's award-winner comes with SPF 20 to protect against UVA and UVB rays.

To see the rest,

Merle Norman Luxiva Sheer Defense Tinted Moisturizer, $35, available at Merle Norman stores nationwide. This sheer but flaw-concealing moisturizer comes in three colors and contains sunscreen as well as Vitamins C and E. (Thanks to JessNess for the tip!)

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer, $38, available here. The always reliable Bobbi Brown has created a great tinted moisturizer for dry skin that comes in seven different shades.

When I am running late in the morning, I make my own. I just mix my usual moisturizer with some of my foundation and slap it on. That works well for me, but maybe I will look into one of these products.

I have the Bobbi Brown one, and it's absolutely fantastic. I love that it looks really sheer but covers what you don't want people to see. It feels really good too.

I've used Clinique for a few years now- with my moisturizer as well because I have dry patches. I've always been happy with it and feel I can run out confidently with it and a lip gloss. I guess I haven't tried any other brands and am curious to how mine stacks up to the rest. I am intrigues by Stila's product. Thanks for the info.

It's so true, JessNess.

Blonde I use regular moisturizer with mine also! I think it helps your makeup go on better plus keeps your skin from getting dry

I used the Laura Mercier one for 2+ years and loved it. I decided to try Stila's Illuminating tinted moisturizer (at Sephora), and I like that, too. I'm not sure which I prefer - they're both great! Stila's costs less. Both have SPF.

Oh, I also use my regular moisturizer with this. Just bc I have very dry skin.

You forgot Stila. I swear by it. I hate makeup and refused to wear foundation. This is such a great alternative. It feels just like moisturizer.

hmmmmm, I will have to give these another go. I agree that they neither cover nor moisturize, so I am encouraged to hear that they have improved. I have 3 kids, and don't want to look like a run-down old hag at 28, but sometimes slapping on moisturizer is all I have time for (and a little mascara at the red light)

p.s thanks for the shout out Fab I think there are a lot of women who should wear tinted moisturizers instead of heavy foundation everyday. Its so much lighter and better for your skin

I love my Merle Norman. Its only three shades but they work on everyone. My mom and my friend have two different skin tones but wear the same color. And the color looks great on both of them. Ive worn Merle Norman for about 2-3 years now. I bottle can seriously last almost a year

Neutrogena makes tinted moisturizers with SPF 30 in different shades that sell for about $8, they're pretty good. ___________________________________________ ~~ Experience is one thing you can't get for nothing ~~
