In a pairing that was destined for whimsy, Christian Lacroix took the helms of Schiaparelli Haute Couture, and the results didn’t disappoint! Embracing the surrealist foundation of the label and paying homage to Elsa Schiaparelli's out-of-the-box aesthetic, Lacroix topped his models with fuchsia pompoms, crustacean fascinators, and triangular caps that seemed straight out from under the big top. Not limited to headgear, the drama extended down to the toes — think furry boots, leopard-print heels, and red satin stilettos.
But what came between the hats and heels was truly the show. Lacroix balanced volume with slim, clean lines and enhanced the designs with the richest of jewel tones. Adding an extra dose of opulence to a series of baroque gowns were ornate patterns created from delicate and intricate beadwork and embroidery. Schiaparelli would be proud!
