Style For Style: Double Your Tights

Vera Wang at ShopStyle

While sheer tights are de rigueur, opaque is undoubtedly still a major player in the legwear world. That's because matte tights not only make you look good, but also protect you from harsh weather.

These Simply Vera Opaque Control-Top Tights ($9, originally $12) are dark, but let me teach you a trick to make them the most dense of all.

To find out how to double your tights,

.

I once read that in order to make her legs appear really dark, Heidi Klum wears two pairs of tights. Smart! I recently decided to put Heidi's tip to the test, and it worked wonderfully. I found that it's best to use the same or similar colors when doubling your tights. This trick is also useful for those who want to keep their legs super warm. It's almost like wearing pants. My only complaint is that it squishes your toes. Try it sometime and let me know how it goes.

I used to have a ridiculous pair of Jonathan Aston tights, which were sparkly lurex gold with maroon flower print. It was a bit garish, so I'd layer that under a pair of black semi-opaques - much better! I also had some thick purple woolly ones with patterning, so I'd layer some black tights under that. Much warmer, and looked pretty neat!

not only do i double my tights, i also double leggings! particularly b/c a lot of the cute leggings i have in colors are the thin tight-like kind... i put a cotton pair of leggings underneath and it is much better for the winter!

I'm damned to never wear tights. I've worn them for the past 3 days and 2 are already ripped.

gotta try it tomorrow! people who don't wear tights usually comment that I must be freezing for wearing tights in winter....i'm usually not cold with them because I wear riding boots with them, but i will try this I am sure i will be uber uber cozy!

The few times i've worn tights i have done like this. i hate to be cold( i cannot have fun like that)and the color is the same all over your leg (not streching/fading) and another tip: as soon as it is cold outside(i live in NYC) i wear leggins underneath my jeans and im never cold!! it is not tight or uncomfortable at all and the cold air does not get into contact with your skin, this is the only use i have for leggins

Nals33... Fabsugar previously featured a post to help eliminate bulges when wearing tights (or in your words,"digging into the belly"). It's such a great idea. =) Here's the link: http://fabsugar.com/1126618

I always wear two pairs of tights in the winter! To make sure I'm comfy and look slim I wear a control top tights on bottom, and a brand that fits me looser on top. I also think the more-opaque look is more appropriate with boots.

I used to work at as a waitress in a restaurant where part of the dress code was black stockings, but they always were a little sheer for my taste, especially under the harsh lighting there, so I ended up doubling them, and let me tell you it was the best solution. Instantly opaque, comfy, and warm ... almost like leggings

I can't imagine this would be comfy...

Double layer tights are also great for making colors really pop! Wear black under dark blue (or even white under bright colors like yellow and pink) for really intense color.

I wish I could do wool tights...but I'd be scratching my legs every couple minutes. Itch! It's actually not uncomfortable. I usually don't even notice.

This is why you have to buy wool tights :). JCrew makes great ones.

I always wear two pairs of tights. It's not uncomfortable, and I stay much warmer. Even better, those tell-tale signs where the tights get thin over the fatter part of your leg are not visible. One homogeneous dark color.

I always try to find tights that are actually made out of sweater material. Its super warm and they are denser. They are hard to find but if you do grab them up
