Toms Canvas Slip-On Shoes: Love It or Hate It?

These casual shoes have been lurking around for a while, unfortunately. As exhibited by Scarlett Johansson, the Toms Canvas Slip-Ons, $42, aren't the most flattering shoe. They are dubbed the shoes for tomorrow, and for every pair purchased, Toms donates one to a child in need. I would buy it only for that reason, but would certainly not wear them outside the house. They may be ultra-comfy, but darling, pain is beauty! Do you agree?

Wow, pretty snobbish comments. I think they look cute on my feet and I would rather buy a pair that is helping people than spend hundreds of dollars on one pair of heels that will be over next season. Secondly, did you ever stop to think that the point isn't to look cool, but to give children with NO shoes at all protection on their feet. I'm sure they don't care about how the shoes look, but rather are thankful that they no longer have brusies and scrapes on their feet. The point isn't to be the coolest looking shoes on the block to to become more socially aware/responsible.

i'm from Argentina, and I used to wear alpargatas as a kid to go to the beach, they are very comfortable, but not particularly stylish

I would never wear these in public, but if they're really comfortable I'd wear them around the house as slippers or something.

I voted undecided because that is what I am on the topic of TOMS. I bought a pair but they were too small and it seems that no other place carries them in my size. I wish they looked cute on me but they dont. They are not as bad a crocs, those things are a disaster!

The reason they cost so much is so they can do what they're doing, they couldn't do it if the shoes cost $10, obviously they aren't going to sell trendy 6 inch heels, they're supposed to be for everyone. LOVE THEM

Not a fan.

They carry much cuter colors. The founder is a friend of a friend and it's such a great concept. He's giving shoes to children! They're great beach shoes. Just check out the other colors.

Again, these look like shoes my grandmother wore around!

Yes, they're alpargatas! Here in Argentina people use them, mostly men, at home or just as a comfy shoe. But also, polo and rugby players use them and they kinda look good. They're definitely not fashion forward and I wouldn't wear them to go out but I think TOMS'idea is great. They're being sold all over the USA and at the same time being delivered to poor children here in South America who can't even buy their own alpargatas. I hope people keep buying them, at least to use them for walking the dog or something.

they kinda look like sokmething an old man would wear.

On second thought, since the shoes are representing a traditional style in Argentina, I suppose the styling is spot on (though they still look like my grandmother's house shoes). These shoes are also made (sweatshop-free) in Argentina, so they doubly benefit the country.

The charity portion of this is awesome. However, the shoes are ugly and look like something in my grandmother's closet. He should redo them as Mary Janes or modern loafers.

Cute for guys- not so cute for girls. (Especially for me, with a size 10!) These are actually built very well- thick, rubber sole (not made with rope, like in Uruguay!), thick canvas- they last much longer but run a size small! Trust me- they're way better than having to see your man in a pair of sandals, and they're perfect for hot summer days.

Well they aren't beautiful or anything. I think they're middle aged people material perhaps.

I love them. :D It's so good to be weird. I'm a diabetic so I can't take chances with my feet so I do value my comfort over style. Yep.

LMAO!!! They look like shoes they would give to inmates in a woman's prison.

They are supposed to look like gaucho-style shoes -- and most of the charity work is done in South America. I think they're awesome, and the charity thing is awesome, but the price is not so great - I'd like to buy a pair but am waiting until I have $40 to spare. Tom's beat Crocs with a stick any day!

Alpargatas! In Argentina you cand find them for $3! I don't like them, and, as loli said, are the ones that the "gauchos" wear...
