I don't feel bad when I buy clothes... I feel bad when I over indulge. Which I should because everyone should feel bad when they over indulge in anything too much.

Good job, quickbird, with that synopsis. It's true that people make money that way (though it's mostly the middle man). The fact that somebody makes a living from your money doesn't justify spending it impractically. People buy more clothes when they can't afford health insurance, and that's not ok! The environmental impact is also relevant, though most people choose to ignore it.

Karl Lagerfeld has a Twitter?! I don't know how I missed this, but if he has any more nuggets of wisdom like he had in that Harper's Bazaar Q&A, I am all over it!

Besides that, this is an intriguing conversation Karl could get going on this site. On the one hand, he's totally right. On the other, the high cost of fashion is unrealistic for the vast majority of us--leading consumers further into the black hole of fast fashion, which hurts designers (ie the true artists), the environment, and--ultimately--the very idea of a sustainable business. See all the things you can talk about?

A lot of people make their money in the tobacco and diet pill industries too. I'm all for buying what makes you happy within your means, but that's a bit of an oversimplification, and rather biased.
