Zoë Kravitz's Honest Comments on Fashion Will Make You Stand Up and Scream "YES!"

Feb 4 2016 - 9:50am

Let's get one thing straight: Zoë Kravitz — whether she'd like to admit it or not — is the epitome of cool [1]. Not only does her laid-back sense of style always win us over on the red carpet [2] and beyond, she also knows that it's not always about designer duds.

Opening up to her friend Alexander Wang in an interview with Teen Vogue, the 27-year-old got so real when talking about clothing.

"You can tell when someone is driven by labels," she told the designer. "If something is couture they think it's important and wear it and sometimes make a terrible fashion mistake. People are shocked that I know so little about designers. I know the big ones because my grandmother wore them or they've been around forever. I know you because you're my best friend, but I don't know much about the fashion world except for when I like something, I like it."

The star also touched on the time she wore a paper bag as her purse, DIYed a pair of shoes by cutting them so they'd fit, and how Wang really helped her take her look to the next level ("You appreciated my uniqueness when I don't think a lot of people did, but you loved me enough to gently nudge me," she told him).
