The Italian industrialist behind Diesel has acquired the majority of Dutch designer firm, Viktor & Rolf. Renzo Rosso plans to erect freestanding stores, boost the ready to wear business, and catapult licensed products such as sunglasses for the brand. This arrangement has been in the works for almost a year now, and the designer's say it was partly due to their wanting to make sure Rosso was a right fit. They were finally convinced of the partnership by watching Rosso successfully back and promote Margiela--a designer who is similarly 'off-the-wall' and who, even with Rosso making a major investment in his brand, seems to design just exactly how he pleases. Gucci is partnering with Vodaphone who is partnering with iPhone and soon you will be able to buy Gucci handbags as easily as you can find the 'nearest Gelato parlour'. Our grandparents say life is getting more complicated, but we're pretty sure it's just getting easier. The Gucci feature will only be available in Italy for the time being--hence the Vodaphone bit. In other news, well-styled television shows make people want to buy clothing (we know this) but Mad Men might be just the recession-appropriate drama for viewers to emulate. Prada's moving 5,650 square feet to San Francisco, as the eleventh Prada store in the U.S. and the first to open since 2004. Bill Cunningham loves a dandy.
