Zoe Saldaña Seems to Love Goofing Off With Her 3 Kids — Get to Know Them

Zoe Saldaña is a proud mom of three kids with husband Marco Perego, and she seems to love taking them everywhere with her. Of course, fame means that sometimes their outings can be disrupted by fans — though not always, largely thanks to the fact that Saldaña has appeared in blue and green makeup in some of her best-known projects (the Avatar and Avengers franchises, respectively). "I can take my kids to a coffee shop and I'll be recognized of course, sometimes," Saldaña told CBS News on July 17. "And sometimes I won't."

Saldaña frequently shares glimpses of her family's travels and fun times on social media and generally includes her kids in her work life. In January 2023, she posted an Instagram video of her kids recreating a scene from "Zoolander," seemingly showing that her kids might have inherited a bit of their mom's love for the camera. She also told InStyle in 2022 that her appearances in movies like "Guardians of the Galaxy" have given her some "street cred" with her kids.

"I see how he's trying to place me in his mind like, 'OK, you're Mama, but you're also Gamora,'" she shared of her youngest. Saldaña also brought her kids out with her when she accepted her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.

The actor has been open about the care she's taking to raise her kids the right way. "When you look at parenting, the whole thing about matriarchy and patriarchy, and Daddy's little girl and Mama's boys — my husband and I find that completely ludicrous and absolutely unhealthy for the upbringing of a child," she told People in 2018. "You're giving them a very distorted and limited view on what a female role is supposed to be in a family and what a male role is supposed to be."

Speaking with People in October, Saldaña said parenting is the "most amazing thing, but it's real." "We are here to set very big tones for them in life on how to be, how to react, how to regulate, how to repair, how to heal, how to stand up for yourself. So they're going to be constantly mirroring what you do, knowing that you're being observed at all times," she explained. "It definitely makes you a lot more mindful than you have ever been in your whole entire life."

The actor also said she and Perego are "teaching our little boys to honor women and to celebrate women." "We're very hard on our boys the same way we're hard on women. And boys are encouraged to be strong and to suppress their emotions. And then once you learn to do that so much for so long, you become completely excommunicated from your feelings," Saldaña said. "We definitely understood the assignments and accepted it knowing that we were raising boys during a time when women's movements are so important."

Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio

Identical twins Cy and Bowie were born on Nov. 27, 2014, via an emergency C-section. The two boys instantly seemed to share a close bond. "They do everything together!" Saldaña said in an interview with Extra in 2017. "They sleep at the same time, they eat at the same time, they poop at the same time."

She later told People that she loves watching her twins develop: "I couldn't be more in awe of who they are, their natures as boys," she said in 2017. "We put so much pressure on them. Through our nurture, we tamper so much. So I've been leaning in on the books, and talking to parents of boys, getting any advice from fathers and mothers that we can grab. My husband and I are sponges, because we are determined to raise happy, stress-free men."

She also told the outlet that while she was open to having other kids come over to her house, she doesn't let them go elsewhere — though it's unclear if that will remain the case as the kids age. "Our kids are free," she said at the time. "We're rambunctious. We're a loud family, and we don't stop from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. And literally, we just don't have any play dates. You can always come to our house, our doors are open. But we don't ever want them to be exposed to negligence, or to someone getting angry with them for just being boys."

Zen Anton Hilario

Saldaña and Perego welcomed Zen on Dec. 12, 2016. Saldaña told People in 2018 that while growing up as the younger sibling of identical twins can have its challenges, Zen is sure to hold his own. "They're identical twins and they're really attached at the hip and their connection is really majestic," she said. "So it takes a lot of conscious action to not forget about Zen — but Zen never lets them forget either. He's really persistent."
