Back on Track: Big Bowl of Fruit Salad

If you 're struggling with getting more fruit in your daily diet, here's a way to make it happen. Like with everything, a little prep goes a long way. So this weekend, make a huge bowl of fruit salad for the week. Cut up all your faves like melon, strawberries, nectarines, and pineapple. Add fresh blueberries, grapes, cherries, and strawberries. It only takes about 20 minutes to do it all at once, which is much easier than taking fruit out to cut up every day. Store it in a sealed container in the fridge and it's a quick and convenient snack you can enjoy all week long.

I looove fruit salad but I can't imagine making a bowl at the beginning of the week would still be good by Friday. Not that there is even a chance it would make it to Friday wothout being eaten, but I don't like fruit that has been sitting so I would make it fresh each time. I also put stir some yogurt in and it is sooo good.

I'm with 2muchtv, I just can't stand when the juices all mix together and the fruit begins to all taste the same. I start to pick out the blueberries and other fruits with skins so they don't taste like anything else. I just buy myself 3 different packages of fruit every time I need to stock up (aside from the apples and oranges that I have around all of the time), so I have plenty of variety, just separated! :)

That... actually looks like the tupperware of my dreams. I am properly obsessed with fruit (sweet! juicy! colourful! the textures! what more can you possibly ask for from any foodstuff??), but it's just so expensive that I almost view anything outside the basics (ie. apples, oranges and bananas) a proper treat. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the berries reduced to £1 each at M&S on the weekend - went nuts and bought 5 boxes for a MEAN berry fruit salad for dessert. Of course by the time they're reduced like that, they're a little dodgy, but nothing that can't be picked out and cut away...

I personally can't stand fruit salad. I do cut up fruits and veggies to snack on at the beginning of the week, but I hate how the fruit juices mix, blech. Apples should taste like apples, not oranges. I keep it just below eye level (just below the leftovers) so that when I feel like snacking, it's pretty much staring me in the face. As for them going bad or portion size, portion them prior to storing, and your leftovers can be frozen for smoothies. Yum.

now the only trick is to not eat all of it one sitting

When I lived at home, Mom and I would do this sometimes. We'd make a HUGE bowl of fresh fruit and eat it throughout the week with yogurt and granola sprinkled on it. I don't do this much anymore though because I wouldn't be able to eat it fast enough before the fruit got all mushy. I do keep a big bag of frozen mixed fruit in the freezer and I eat that throughout the week though. It's not quite as good, but it's not bad either.

I make fruit salad all the time. In my house, fruit always rots in the fridge or on the counter if I don't cut it up and put it in the center of the dining table - then there usually isn't enough to feed everyone! I love adding tropical fruits like mangoes and pineapple, their flavors really make everything else taste better.
