Back on Track: Pack Your Lunch Now

Summer is slowly drawing to a close and the wonderful distraction of the Olympics has drawn to a close as well. I suggest starting the last week of August off on the right foot by packing your lunch for Monday the night before. Take what's left of Sunday dinner and create a healthy lunch. I like to use leftover veggies and meat as salad toppers for my greens. Making your own lunch means you end up with a meal that is good for your waistline as well as your wallet.

I always pack my lunch the night before and have it ready to go in the morning when I'm taking a lunch. Luckily with my school schedule, I can eat lunch at home before going to class everyday of the week. However, when I was working this summer, I enjoyed eating healthy so I packed a lunch. For kamiliaa (and anyone else who wants ideas) - here's some suggestions*: -Apple and cheese slices with crackers -Whole wheat bread with lean deli meat/tuna (with light mayo), fruit, baked chips -STOUFFER'S LEAN CUISINE CAFE CLASSICS Chicken Mediterranean with Pasta Entree with a banana STOUFFER'S LEAN CUISINE EVERYDAY FAVORITES Macaroni & Cheese Entree with a banana (or other fruit) -STOUFFER'S LEAN CUISINE EVERYDAY FAVORITES Spaghetti with Meatballs Entree with fruit -LEAN CUISINE Macaroni & Beef with an orange -Low carb tortilla or wheat pita filled with lettuce, tomato, chicken/turkey with fruit -Pita filled with turkey and lettuce, pretzel sticks and cheese cubes -Yogurt and crackers with deli meat -English muffin with tuna or deli meat, light mayo and carrot sticks Basically, your essentials would be whole grains, lean meat, veggies, fruit and a low-calorie treat (100 calorie packs are great for this). *Keep in mind these ideas will not be suitable for all depending on your daily caloric intake.

i hate eating out period. i always regret it bc i either eat too much, too unhealthy and there's something about eating out makes you way more bloated than home food (anyone hear me on that one?) anyways, we don't realize how much we shell out on food/drinks...add up your $5 lattes, $8 subway sandwiches and $---- vending machine snacks in 1 week- you could buy yourself a mani+pedi.

We didn't spend any money eating out one day last week. UNHEARD of in our house! We both felt really good about it, we're going to keep up the routine!

I always pack my lunch except the occasional Friday--then I'll go pick up some sushi at Fresh Market. Recently I just bring fruit and a microwavable-ready sweet potato.

I always make lunches the night before for me and my husband. I would never bring my own lunch if I had to pack it in the morning, lol! I also put my coffee in the pot and fill the carafe with water so that in the morning I can just pour it into the machine and have a pot of coffee 2 minutes later.

I am pretty excited. With the season changing I may be moving from outdoor field work to being in an office for a 9-5. It depends on what my company needs right now. I am eagerly anticipating rocking a lunch box soon!

I almost always take leftovers for lunch. So far this week I'll have two lunches from Saturday's leftover stew and two lunches from Sunday's leftover vindaloo. There will probably be pizza for dinner mid-week, so the leftovers from that will be great for Friday's lunch!

i always pack my lunch for school/work. then if i ever run out of food at home (it happens) & don't have anything to pack, it feels like a huge treat if i actually get to buy something.

When I head into work I always try to pack a lunch because it's so easy to eat things that are high in calories when you get hungry and don't have something immediately to reach for.

With teaching I only get a 27 minute lunch that I have to pack... or eat school cafeteria food. :) As everyone else said it's great to save money and is much healthier :P

i definitely agree that by packing your lunch, you are able to save money and re-use food so it doesn't go to waste - which in the end saves even more money :) although i don't like leftovers, luckily my fiance does so we always make sure to pack up the sunday night dinner (or any night) into containers for him to take to work.

I take my lunch to work anytime I can. Sometimes I don't have any leftovers, so I end up going to the grocery store to get salad, which usually only costs like $3!
