This week I was lucky enough to see Chris Sharma speak at my climbing gym, Planet Granite in San Francisco. In the world of rock climbing, Chris is a rock star, and many argue that he is THE best. Climbing since the age of 12, he is an inspiration to watch — the level at which he climbs can only be matched by a handful of folks in the world.
No matter who you are, the lessons Chris has learned through his climbing can apply to you. As we sat looking at his photos and videos of his climbing career and life, he kept going back to the idea that his biggest source of motivation comes from a passion and love of the sport that almost borders on obsession. Chris says that no matter what you do in life, find something that you truly love, and never be afraid to take risks.

I'm using his message to work harder at climbing and to seek out new challenges. Spring is always a time of rebirth, so if you're struggling to find a sport or fitness routine that you really love, don't be afraid to take chances. Try something new and push yourself to excel in ways that you never thought possible. Most of all, have fun with it. But if you need an extra push, I urge you to watch the video of Chris in action. I think that watching any elite athlete perform is enough to make me want to do better!
