Chrissy Metz Reveals the Health Scare That Motivated Her 100-Pound Weight-Loss Journey

Chrissy Metz is opening up about the motivation to begin her weight-loss journey. In a recent interview with People magazine the 36-year-old actress recalled the scary moment she thought she was dying when she started having heart palpitations ahead of her 30th birthday. "I'm like, 'What is this? Am I dying? What's happening?'" the This Is Us star revealed. Turns out, she was having a severe panic attack. "It was really scary—really, really, really scary."

Metz said her frightening trip to the hospital following the attack was the moment she realized she needed to not only lose weight, but to get healthy both emotionally and mentally. "I'm like, 'Oh, this is not just a physical thing. It's like a soul, spirit, mind, body collective thing. Not everything's connecting,'" Metz exclaimed.

"I'm like, 'Oh, this is not just a physical thing. It's like a soul, spirit, mind, body collective thing."

The actress has since lost 100 pounds in five months by following a strict diet of 2,000 calories per day and walking for at least 20 minutes each day.

"I don't have a weight or a size [in mind]," she said. "It's really going to be about how I feel when I look at myself. I do want to lose weight. Physically, I really am interested in just feeling better and not having to be put in a box. I don't want to be limited by anything."
