Cookbooks For New Vegans and Vegetarians

A Reader Recommends Her Go-To Vegan Cookbooks

Being a new vegetarian can mean a lot of changes, especially in the kitchen. FitSugar reader healthymeatball is finding that vegan-specific cookbooks have helped. Read on for what she thinks about two meatless cooking classics.

Holy crap people. I've been a vegetarian for 6 months! I consider it normal to slip up every once in awhile, especially when Mom force-feeds you homemade meatballs on your bimonthly visit home. But I discovered that these books are the perfect aid for such mistakes, bringing you back to balance when your mind (and appetite) causes you to stray.

Find out just what healthymeatball thinks of The Kind Life and Skinny Bitch at her blog, The Healthy Meatball. Want more vegetarian and vegan cookbook recommendations? Here are five vegetarian and five vegan places to start.

As a lactose intolerant vegetarian of a few years I strongly suggest looking for cookbooks that use whole foods as opposed to processed foods. What is the point of being vegetarian if you the bulk of your diet is processed foods? My top picks are "How to Cook Everything Vegetarian" by Bittman and "Vegetarian Planet" Didi Emmons. Both offer great healthy options.
