Those Double Mint twins were onto something — mint may be just what you need to curb your cravings for a midnight snack or that second chocolate chip cookie. Due to mint's strong scent, it is a natural appetite suppressant that can be used to keep cravings at bay, said dietitian and nutritionist Cynthia Sass. It may all be psychological but it works; sipping on mint tea, chewing sugar-free mint gum, or simply brushing your teeth can save you calories and may help you drop a pant size — unfortunately, mint chocolate chip ice cream does not count. Give mint a try the next time you're longing for something sweet and salty, or check out some of these ideas to curb cravings.

this really does work. i try to have mints around rather than gum since gum makes me hungrier (is that a word) but i think that it does make a lot of sense to have mints around. if i don't have that then i go for the mint tea option.

I chew mint gum between meals and it definitely helps keep cravings at bay. I'm curious about a mint-scented candle...it's not a common scent. Where'd you get yours, Fit?

I keep a bottle of mint lotion, mint lip gloss, and peppermint extract on my desk at work. Triple threat.

It doesn't have to be peppermint gum for it to work, I chew a stick of any kind and it kicks the craving to the curb for awhile.

I found that if you brew some peppermint tea and add a couple TB of suger-free hot chocolate, it makes a really satisying treat for under 50 calories. Or a mini York peppermint patty, mmmmm....
