Diet Tip: Rinse With Fluoride to Avoid Snacking

We all love to snack, but sometimes noshing on food in between meals adds up to tons of unnecessary calories. So I've discovered this little tip that not only prevents me from raiding the fridge, but it also helps hinder cavities. I brush my teeth and then rinse with fluoride. After rinsing, you can't eat or drink for 30 minutes, so it'll help curb your desire to snack. Plus clinical studies show that using a fluoride mouthwash can provide extra protection against tooth decay, so it's a win-win.

I do this now in the morning and at night before bed, but am so far able to not snack after dinner on my own. I will brush my teeth early if i think it will be a problem though and it does help!

I'm going to try this! I always get chocolate cravings when I'm at home.

My mother used to tell me the exact same thing growing up. I guess her parents told her to brush her teeth to avoid "getting fat", in other words not to eat so much...It does work simply beacuse food doesn't taste all that great after rinsing with floride.

I just detail the heck out of my teeth- floss, brush with the Sonicare, finish off with whitening mouthwash..and it does keep me from wanting to undo my hard work by snacking. But works even better is to use whitening strips. They have to stay on your teeth for a long time and afterwards you don't want to F up your teeth by snacking and perhaps staining them. I also paint my nails or take a bubble bath when plagued by a snack attack...

before i read the post i was wondering how using flouride would really keep you from snacking...and i guess it makes sense if you're not able to eat for 30 minutes afterwards for it to be effective. :)

I totally started doing this last week when the dentist told me I had a mini cavity. Not getting a filling is so much more important than dessert! So I brush, rinse, and resist! :)
