Keep Fresh Fruit, Not Flowers, on the Table

As much as I love fresh flowers, and I do love fresh flowers, they are apparently not the best home décor decision for someone trying to lose a few pounds. Instead, Dr. Oz says that a fruit-filled centerpiece is the optimal choice. According to his ultimate slim-down plan, "Studies have indicated that people who smelled fruit before a meal lost an average of 30 pounds over the course of six months." The scent of fruit tricks our brains into thinking we've eaten so we feel full faster and eat less. And keeping a fruit bowl nearby may stop us dead in our tracks before we reach for a bag of chips in the kitchen cabinet.

I'm not saying I don't believe Dr. Oz, but I wonder if the mood boost I get from a vase full of hydrangea is worth giving up. Would you be willing to switch out flora for fruit in the name of dieting?

I'm a fan of chilled fruit. And the fruit flies do cause a problem in our house if any fruits or scraps are left out. :\

I love the concept, but unfortunately, (at least in Tennessee) fruit flies would be on that fruit quicker than I'd be able to eat it. Also, I'm with Spectra and Amber...I love chilled fruit as well!!

I only like chilled fruit as well. I hate warm fruit! (well except for bananas, those I don't mind).

See, I could see how this might work, but I only like chilled fruit, not room temperature fruit. When I was growing up, my dad always kept the apples in a bowl on the counter and they'd get mushy and gross and I would NEVER eat them. I keep my fruit handy in the fridge, but I'll keep flowers on my table.

This could work! I keep a two tier serving platter full of fruit in the kitchen and let me say the fruit never goes bad ;) It will always get eaten if it's out. And why not? Its a convinient, fast, yummy snack!
