Do Think of Potatoes as Veggies or a Starch?

I just heard about a survey conducted by the Idaho Potato Commission that found the potato to be America's favorite veggie. While I have nothing against potatoes — I love them — I just don't think of them as a veggie. I think of them as a starch. I conducted my own small survey on classifying spuds and the results were mixed. So now I pose the question to you . . .

What about a starchy veggie? I've never considered the two categories exclusive of one another. Sure, there's a lot of starch in a potato, but it's also an incredibly delicious and nutrient-rich vegetable.

I consider them a starch -- but a much healthier, vitamin-ier starch than a roll or piece of bread.

Delish, that's what I think. I think that I consider them a veggie, but I've really never thought about it. I make potatoes pretty consistently, once or twice a week but I absolutely love love 'em, gotta have a tater.

I generally think of them as a starch, but they are better for you than most refined starches if you eat them baked with the skin on.

Potatoes are a starch that I can definitely pass up. I find them tasteless and boring. Sweet potatoes on the other hand are a delicious veggie that are full of flavour and nutrients in my opinion.

Definitely a starch, not a vegetable. It doesn't mean that I avoid them -- in fact, I bought some potatoes at the supermarket this morning -- but I would never count them towards my vegetable servings for the day. There are, of course, nutrients in the skins (which I always eat) so it is certainly not a waste, but you cannot say eating a potato is equal to eating a head of broccoli.

I said Veggie but actually I think of it as a tuber ( a root veggie a completely different creature in my mind for oh let's say spinach). Same with carrots- tuber. Potatoes are starchy but they are also loaded with Vitamin C and other great nutritious stuff.

Veggie. No, scratch that. Bread. I come from a place where potatoes are worshiped and it is bread, much like rye and wheat.

Starch. And I've realized that I just really don't like potatoes. Besides french fries but that's b/c its hardly even a potato by then. But baked potato, mashed potatoes, twice packed, etc., etc. I'll PASS.
