6 Ways to Make Chinese New Year a Healthy Celebration

Do You Have High Blood Pressure?

When I was growing up, my parents had high blood pressure, so there was no salt next to our pepper shaker, and both mom and dad were always popping pills to lower their numbers. I always thought high blood pressure was something old folks had to worry about, so I was shocked to learn mine was high when I was in college. Of course, I was packing on about 20 extra pounds from all the candy, pizza, and beer soda I was downing, and I was also super stressed out from all the schoolwork. Since then I've lost the weight, been exercising regularly, and am happy to say my blood pressure has been at a healthy level for at least five years. What about you . . .

The last time I had my blood pressure checked, the nurse stated that mine was too low. I thought that was odd since I usually in the healthy range.

No I don't have high BP. I never do unless I'm in extreme pain like right now (I got physical attacked on a SF bus by another passenger. She broke my nose in multiple places and I had her arrested.) Anyway, fat or thin my BP is only high when I am in pain or I'm scared and in the hospital. Or doctors put me on medications to raise my BP. When I was 330lbs it was 80/60. Just overweight it was 80/60. Then normal weight 80/60 or less because the medications for preventing migraine attacks happen to be BP lowering meds. I come from a family of fainters. All my siblings I have extremely low BP. We have excellent circulation just oddly very low BP. Any time anyone's BP is normal or high in our family its due to stress, injury or medication. I frequently say there are benefits to being born into a family of circus freaks. Also never let anyone punch you in the face and break your nose - it hurts like hell.

No high blood pressure for me! Last time I got it checked was in August, it was 108/70-something, but since then I've started working out on a regular basis and lost a few pounds, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was even better now. My dad's side of the family was blessed with good blood pressure, and luckily I took after them instead of my mom, who does have high blood pressure.

Hypertension runs in my family, but my blood pressure is low-normal...usually around 100/65, but when I'm at the doctor's office it goes up a little bit.

normal to low, usually 94/58 but I seldom feel dizzy or lightheaded; my resting heart rate is also in the forties, and both have always been low, irrespective of my general fitness levels. My mum suffers from high blood pressure - it got so bad during her pregnancy that she had to have a ceasarian! But then again her love of salt is legendary.

About two years ago, I was diagnosed with pre-hypertension (138 was my top number I remember...yuck)--I made some conscious changes to change my lifestyle, and also tried not to stress so much. It's now back to a much more normal level of 109.

Thankfully no, but hbp does run in the fam, so I try to be aware of it--with working out, eating, etc.

I have low to normal blood pressure, haven't fainted but do get light headed if I get up too quickly.. My husband has high blood pressure and is on meds which have side effects.

I'm yet another person with really low blood pressure. Vanonymous, it definitely contributes to fainting, but I've luckily only done that once. My vision blacks out if I stand up too quickly, too. My 75 year old grandfather still has the same problem, so I know where I got it from.

Mine's really low too. 80ish/60ish... no problems with it though. Last time my doc said "whatever you're doing - keep doing it."

Mine hovers between 90 - 100 over 60. Vanonymous - your low blood pressure probably has something to do with why you faint easily. I've never fainted (knock on wood!) but I have to be careful about going from laying down to standing up or else I get light headed if I do it too quickly.

Mine is normal to low, which is pretty good considering the rest of my family has hypertension. I'm sure it'll catch up with me someday though.

mine's low too. My husband has high blood pressure which doesn't surprise me in the least. You should see how angry he gets at gravity. Once we move, I'm making him go to a doctor.

Mine was pretty low also - 90/60 when I have my last checkup.

i actually have very low blood pressure. The last time I went to the doctors i was 90/42. I wonder if this is why I faint fairly easily?
