Do You Have a Personal Trainer?

We usually see John Mayer working out on his own but recently it looks like he has enlisted the expertise of trainer Harley Pasternak. I've been off and on trainers for the past few years, but right now I am going about it on my own. What about you guys? Do you have a personal trainer right now?

I've been reading for about a year now that John Gayer works with Harley Pasternak. Personally, I don't have a trainer.

I had a trainer for a year and half prior to my wedding. It was greatness! It was nice to have an appointment and have someone waiting on me at the gym... not to mention that I still had to pay if I no showed! He pushed me to do more than I would have on my own. I almost had a six pack...not so much now! Maybe I should consider getting another...*sigh*

I've had a personal trainer for the last almost 11 months now, and he has been a huge aid in my weight loss (over 80 lbs so far)and just becoming healthy. I tried many different things to lose weight and nothing stuck, now if I go 3 days without working out I feel gross. And he challenges me every time I see him, his newest certification is in Crossfit (www.crossfit.com) it's really intense, but I'm seeing results much faster, as in the last two weeks, I have more tone. He pushes me to keep going, I push myself too. But those days when you are feeling lethargic and having an appointment...makes me go. And I always feel better afterwards. :-) Best investment of my life.

My gym has like, 10 half hour sessions a year free with every membership. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it's really cool because they set you up with an initial program in four of the sessions that you then follow on your own. It's all detailed and written out. Then every 6-8 weeks you go back for a reevalution where they do measurements and add more challenging exercises. I think it's such a great combination, and then if you really like the training and can afford it you can obviously add more sessions.

I used to have one and I loved it. He taught me SO much and gave me lots of different exercises to do, most of which I still do. If I could afford it, I would definitely do it again!

I'm a university student and I loooove my uni gym! They offer a service where for three pounds (six dollars roughly) you get an hour with one of the trainers where they make you a programme, based on what you want to achieve, that you can do on your own. They work out how much you can do in general, what weights you should use for the weight machines etc. I re-do this every ten or so weeks to stay on track and challenge my body. I have had great results so far and I am encouraged to e.g. move up on the weights when I feel it's possible, and it's just enough. A big part for me in enjoying exercise (as someone who previously avoided it as much as possible) is having my iPod playing motivational music, so I prefer working on my own but with a professional plan. My workouts that I did on my own, before I'd had these meetings, seem ridiculous now! It's amazing how much more you can do when someone else challenges you.

JustSomeChick - Harley's head hasn't always been that small! I sat across from him on a flight from Toronto to LA about three years ago and he looked healthy and filled out. He's looking rather..dare I say "manorexic" here. Sickly even. And I don't have a personal trainer because I don't need someone else to motivate me. Not to mention how expensive they are!

My boyfriend acts as personal trainer. He runs with me every week, and makes sure I am pushing myself just enough to achieve my goals at a good pace, and he sits down and talks about my eating choices and what my alternatives can be. It's really great to have his support.

mygosh I wish! No cashy cashy right now. In fact, if I had the money, I'd just hire someone to work out FOR me. Well, not really but I am having motivational issues right now

i don't really enjoy having someone tell me what to do & i'm able to motivate myself to work out regularly. if i have questions or want some new things to try, i just ask my brother (he's a personal trainer).

I could afford to but I continue to change my own workouts, do lots of strength training, and am always working on perfect form. I even dropped my gym membership and am more motivated than ever. I choose to spend my money on my gadgets. I love my forerunner!!!

Can't afford it. I never realized how small Harley Pasternak's head is.

Yes, I have one and he is the best investment I have ever made. Trainers are invaluable when it comes to helping you maintain proper form and ensuring you avoid injury, especially when using equipment. Many of the trainers at my gym are very friendly and eager to assist people who aren't in the training program during down times in the gym.

I used to have one when I was still playing a lot of tennis, but now I work out on my own. I like it anyway.

I wish I could afford one! It's not so much about motivation to be at the gym, but I think I could make my workouts more effective with one.

I did before I moved and loved her. I think my husband might be investigating as a Christmas gift. It'll have to be a weekend thing because there are NO gyms even close to my commute route.
