Do You Use the Incline?

I'm a huge fan of using the incline on the treadmill. It's a great way to prepare for hiking and running up hills outside. Not only does it work my butt and hamstrings more, but I love the feeling when I lower the incline back down and keep running. It makes me feel so light, fast, and strong.

I used to use the treadmill but now I'm walk outside everyday with my dog. I did use the incline though.

when i run it is on 0.5-1.5 when i walk i put it up no higher than 8.0. i also use it on the elliptical machine.

I LOVE incline. I didn't think it was that important until I was at the zoo one day and they had, instead of stairs, ramps to climb. I was out of breathe even though it didn't feel like I was getting a work-out at all. Incline changes everything, and yes--I LOVE that wheeee I'm so fast feeling after lowering it!

I like varying the incline a lot because I live in a very flat area, so when I run outside, I don't get the hillwork I need. I don't just use it when I run either; I like to take power walks on the treadmill and put the incline up to 10 or 11 so I get really out of breath.

I hate the treadmill... I'll run outside in all but the worst conditions. On the days where it's just not a good idea, I use in the incline because the flatness causes shin splints for me.

Yes, always, doesnt feel like a workout if you dont use it.

I always have it at 1% to mimic running outside, but sometimes I do hill workouts too.

Sometimes I'll use it when walking on the treadmill but running is challenging enough for me without going uphill.

We do alot of hiking and scrambling in the canyon so the incline is good for building up the leg muscles for endurance in these activities.

I set it at 2 for running and 8-12 for walking. Lately I've been moving it around a lot, though, to try and make treadmill time more interesting.

I usually just do it on .5-1.5. I read somewhere that you should do that to more mimic running outside so that's what I do. I'm not much of a runner yet so I'm still building up to that stuff!

I usuallt keep it on 5.5 for super fast power walking and then when I finish my 30 minute work-out with my run, I put it down to 3.5 run, and then cool down.

one day, when i felt like chatting with my mom rather than listening to music, i walked on a high incline for about 20 minutes. then i decided to run without incline for the remaining 10 minutes and i felt like i was flying. i felt fairly confident i was going to run off the treadmill and through the window in front. it really gives you the zip to complete a fast run and feel liberated. and walking at a high speed and high incline is a completely different workout, which allowed me to work up a decent sweat, so i feel it was a good cardio option.

whenever I use the treadmill its always on an incline.

I usually have it at 1.5% incline all the time but pump it up to 2 or 2.5% when I want a lil challenge. I think you need to have it on at least 1% to get the same workout as you would if you were running outside.

Work it HARD for a few minutes, then when you go down even a little bit you seem like a super fast feather. LOL Thats my favorite part of the run!!!!!!!
