Do You Wear Flip Flops in the Gym Shower?

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine who says she does not wear flip flops in the shower at her gym because she does not want to lug around one more thing in her gym bag. "Understandable," I said, "But have you ever had Athlete's Foot?" She told me no and that she'll take her chances. However, when it comes to Athlete's Foot and my tootsies, I take no chances.

Surely my pal can't be the only one here so I am curious about you guys...

Since everybody else does I do too. What I mean by that is - people's feet don't gross me out, so if everyone went in barefoot I wouldnt be concerned. But the soles of someone's shoes - shoes that could have been anywhere before touching the locker room floor - that does gross me out. So I wear flip flops.

A little bit of prevention, like flip-flops can save alot of money on treating plantar warts and fungus growing b/w your toes. I have had both and both take multiple trips usually to the Dr. and lots of medicine to get rid of.

I wait and take a shower when I get home. However, If I were to use a public shower, I would definitely use flip-flops.

I won't let my bare feet touch the locker room or shower floor. Yuck. Uh-uh baby. Flip-flops all the way.

ALWAYS, no matter where I've gone, if there is a public shower I'm forced to use I've got a special designated pair of flip flops meant just for the shower. I'm not taking any chances and some flimsy $2 foam flip flops don't take up any space or weight so I haven't got a problem with them.

When I first started showering at the gym, I didn't wear flip flops, but there are always sections of the shower floor that the water doesn't reach and ash the soap away. I just couldn't stand stepping on someone else's wash-off. After a few times, I started bringing shower shoes.

I didn't used to. I started doing it more often several years ago after I got athlete's foot. Then I started being positively religious about it after my husband got a plantar wart from the gym shower a couple of years ago. Before then I used to always tell him he should wear flip flops but he didn't. He actually couldn't run or do yoga for months because it got so painful. He had to go to the doctor *6* times over 6 months to get it dug out repeatedly - she said he had a variety that goes particularly deep and is particularly hard to get rid of. So seriously, wear those flip flops. You do not want to get a plantar wart. Athlete's foot is no picnic either!

Is it true that peeing on your feet keep you from getting Athletes Foot? I think its a military thing? I don't know where I heard this from. . . :)

My bare feet <b>never</> touch the floor at the gym be it shower, locker rooms, etc. a nasty plantar wart in college taught me that lesson real quick!I see other women walk all over the place in their bare feet and just cringe at the though- really how big & heavy are a pair of cheap flip flops anyway?

I mostly shower at the gym (helps me keep breakouts at bay)... but I always wear shower sandals. On the rare occasion where I don't have them I'll wear my gym socks into the shower. It may look funny, but I have to figure it's better than nothing (I hope!).

I don't use the showers at my gym because the thought of a public shower makes my skin crawl. I'm a huge germ-a-phobe! Never in my life.....YUCK!!

I don't ever shower at the gym, but I don't ever let my feet touch the floor in the locker room. I keep on flip flops (at least at all times) then head straight home to hit the shower (yes I am a total germophobe)

If you want to deal with plantars warts later, be my guest. Kind of an expensive consequence to not wearing a pair of $2.50 flip-flops, imo.
