Does Your Dad Exercise Regularly?

I grew up in a pretty active family. My dad was insistent on getting the whole family bikes when I was in junior high. It embarrassed me at the time, how he made us go on family bike rides, but he definitely instilled in me a love for being active. Now he plays racquetball and goes on daily walks with my mom. I'm really glad he keeps moving since we have heart problems in our family. He knows exercising is good for his health, and it keeps him around to enjoy his grandchildren. Since Father's Day is this Sunday, I was wondering . . .

My dad has done some sort of exercise almost every day, for all of my life. He always has some sort of project going on, even more so now that he is retired. I wish I were more like him, especially in the exercise & will power department!

My dad exercises 3 times a week now (and I'm proud of him). BUT during his mid-years he didn't exercise and smoked cigs and he ended up having a major stroke at 62. It's been 10 years since that happened and now he takes much better care of himself...unfortunately it was a little too late.

for the record, golf isn't really considered exercising...it might be active, but its nothing more than medium-paced walking for short distances. you don't have to be fit to golf, so don't fool yourself.

my dad is an Ironman. he works out more than anyone i know. he runs 10K every day at lunch and cycles 50-200km at least 5 times a week, and swims at night. he's crazy fit.

My dad is 58, plays golf 4-5 times a week, driving range when its raining, and walks 1-2 hours every day with my mom. He's pretty fit and looks great for his age - he's a total fitness and health freak, and he still kicks butt when it comes to soccer or basketball with guys half his age! He can also do 50 press-ups pretty easily, which is quite a lot even for a young guy. And the other day he did a couple clap push-ups! I'm so proud of him :)

He doesn't work out but he's always doing yardwork when he isn't at work. Since he works two jobs so the time he has off he's sleeping, watching movies or in the yard tackling some project. My dad is a smoker and i've tried to get him to quit for years but he's been smoking since he was in jr. high and now he's almost 50. :( He just won't listen!

My Dad is in a running club, and runs miles and miles every week. He did a 10 mile race this morning in fact! He didn't eat healthily until recently, when his high fat diet caused gallstones.

YES! Close to eight years ago, my dad started walking in the mornings. A year or so later, joined the gym, and now he goes almost every day! Sometimes he goes more than once a day, so I tell him now I worry he is over doing it :) But I'm very proud of him, and he motivated me to join the gym and get my daily dose of exercise in :)

Everyday! He gets so grouchy if he doesn't get any exercise. Every Sat and Sun morning the phone rings at 8 a.m. It's my dad's exercise buddy they disappear for hours running, biking, and training for various challenges. We are all active because of him.

My dad walks the dog twice a day, and is constantly running around doing errands around the house. He doesn't actually "work out", but he's active and still quite slim for a 58 year old.

My dad got into running several years ago. Now we run marathons together...and sometimes 5Ks and 10Ks, too.

I don't really know. We live far from each other so I'm not so sure. But when I was still with him, he exercises at least 4 times a week. I hope he's sticking to that!

My dad doesn't 'exercise' but he's a farmer so he does a lot of physically demanding work a lot of the time and is in amazing shape.

my dad doesn't "exercise," but he never stops moving. he doesn't consider a day completed until he's put in 10 hours of solid work. he jokes around about his "zero impact" regime, but he's in great health at 57 years old!

my dad is 60 and still runs 4 mornings a week, he used to run in a lot of marathons when he was younger and his back was in better shape. He also bikes and is always out in the yard gardening and landscaping. He is really one of my exercising idols, I am still working on becoming as good a runner as he is.

My dad is super active - he snow and water skis, runs, golfs like a maniac, and does TONS of other things. He eats really well and I can't remember the last time he was sick. I'm super proud that my 56 year old dad can still keep up with (and sometimes beat!) me.

I just came home from college and began to worry about my dads weight and health. He wasn't ever really an "exerciser" but I started walking with him every night and I was so proud when I left town and found out he kept up the walking on his own:)
