Find a Turkey Trot Near You

There is no reason to just eat and eat and eat on Thanksgiving. You can start your day off with a Turkey Trot, and I am not talking about the ragtime dance from centuries past, but if you want to do that I am sure you would be burning some calories.

Nope, I talking about Turkey Trots, aka Gobble Runs, as in fun runs. Many towns sponsor fun runs on Thanksgiving Day so you can get out into your community, run with your neighbors, and start your day of indulgence off with some exercise.

The races vary in length, but most are 5k (3.2 miles) and are considered fun runs. So the focus is on having fun rather than the competition. Meaning nobody is going to think your are ruining the race if you walk the entire course.

To find a run in your area check out the Turkey Trot race locator at active.com. You can sign up for your race on active.com, too! I will be running in early in the morn on T-day, on the outskirts of Philly. Wish me luck!

Are you participating in a run on Thanksgiving? Let me know in the comments section below.

I am going to be running the Turkey Trot 5K in Orlando, FL - this will be my 4th year running on Thanksgiving morning. I think it is by far the best way to start the day, I look forward to it every year. Good luck to everyone running that morning too!

I'll be running in the 5K Turkey Trot in Parkville, Missouri. This will be my 4th year. It's become a bit of a Thanksgiving tradition. There's always been someone in the family who runs it. I've given my boyfriend a break this year, and my mom will be running with.

My husband and I have done our local community's Turkey Trot 5K a few years, but unfortunately this year I'm pregnant and not feeling great and he has an injury from a previous marathon. So I think Thanksgiving will be a lazy day here. I'm bummed. It is such a great way to start a day of indulgence!

I'm doing my very own Turkey Trot. I'll be running 11 miles in the park in my neighborhood. It's free and I can work up an appetite for turkey!

That's a fun idea biochemlovely. Maybe I can convince my dad, my sister and brother in law to do our own trot as well! There aren't any real trots in my area :(

This is a great idea - I've actually decided to train for a 1/2 marathon throughout the holidays to keep those pesky holiday pounds off.

My friends are hosting our own version of the Turkey Trot: a two mile run topped off with a shot of Wild Turkey bourbon. Maybe not very healthy, but it sure is fun!

I ran in a Gallop and Gorge 8K last year. We'll be traveling for the holiday, but I might be able to find a run in northern NJ for Thanksgiving morning. Good luck all on your runs!
