Fit Tip: Don't Wear Thick Clothes to Make You Sweat

Fit Tip: Don't Wear Thick Clothes to Make You Sweat

Many folks believe that the harder they sweat the more weight they will lose. So they pile on the clothes, the thick sweat pants so appropriately named, and work on getting sweaty. And yes, in the short term they will lose weight and all that weight will be water weight. Once these fitness fiends replenish their lost fluids and rehydrate themselves the water weight will return. Wearing workout gear that makes you sweat will not help you burn more fat, build more muscle, or spot reduce an area, but they will make you sweat. When working out you don't want to get overheated and dehydrated. Dress in layers so you can peel off clothes as your body warms up and you begin to sweat in your sweats.

The single weirdest thing I've seen was a girl who went on the treadmill, running for ten - fifteen minutes wearing tight, low-slung jeans, with a polo top and, well, it was just VERY far from gym-appropriate clothing. The weirdest thing I see on a lot of guys is wearing a knitted hat. What's up with that? Can you IMAGINE what a sweat fest is going on underneath that yucky sweat absorbing hat?

Yeah I have seen all thos trash-bag looking outfits too! What are they? I know its gross but I love it when I get all sweaty while I work out! But I sweat very easily anyway. I just wear yoga pants, sports bra, old tshirts, and a light sweater! Does anybody know whats the deal with the sauna too? At my gym, everyone goes in there in sweats. Is that okay?

I sometimes HAVE to wear a sweater or something cuz it's just so darn cold in my gym. They have huge airconditioning vents and HUGE fans. I try to stay clear of both. Also, I see people at the gym wearing PLASTIC shirts to sweat more. WTF?!?!

OK this is a pet peeve of mine. I love sweating due to a hard workout and really can't stand tons of clothing especially on the treadmill. For some reason, the guys at my gym, (why is it the really overweight ones?) wear lots of clothes, sweat profusely and stink like laundry detergent or worse, stinky sweat? They even put their hood up. I try to find a treadmill far away from these people!!

I don't pile on clothes to make myself sweat....but doesn't the process of the body making sweat burn some calories as well? Plus, I've heard if you keep yourself in a hotter enviroment, it can suppress your appetite a bit.

i'm in the club to wear sweats to work out but it's not ONLY to lose weight (although yes i know that it's only water weight). i'm not a naked person or one of those 'wear skimpy workout clothes' ppl. i don't like to feel like ppl can see any part of me while i'm working out becuase then i'm not focused on what i'm doing.

Is it wrong that i feel better when i pile on clothes and sweat? (when i'm at the gym, jaja) Can it be dangerous?

What? I would sweat when I work out even if I was naked. Who cares if its water weight. Sweating is a natural process right?
