Fitness Poll: Do You Always Tie and Untie Your Laces?

Do You Always Tie and Untie Your Laces?

I've recently noticed a phenomenon at the gym. Most folks, me included, never untie their sneakers. In these fast-paced times, we just slip them on and off, never bothering to tie, untie, and retie them unless absolutely necessary. Really the only time I tie the shoelaces on my running sneakers is when they come untied on their own, so what about you?

Do you always tie and untie your laces?

Never. Unless I really have to do it, of course!

I never untie or tie mine, unless I really have to. I will sooner struggle with trying to get my heel into a tightly tied sneaker than go through the motions of having to tie and untie.

I TRY to tie my shoes when I put them on as much as possible so my shoes are snug but when I'm running late for a gym class those bad boys are getting slipped on my feet as soon as possible! :) But I hardly ever untie my shoes when I take them off.

I'm with so many others. I always just slip them off while they're still tied. However I always untie them to put them back on again.

I untie every time. The last time I bought running shoes they advised that the shoes get worn out more quickly when you are stretching them to push your foot inside. It's better to loosen the laces.

pfft, i dont untie or tie, on or off. unless both laces are dragging on the floor. other than that, slip on and off. but then again, i have no problem slipping and sliding in my shoe as i run on the elliptical and my feet are pretty calloused from my martial art... hehe..

I always untie and retie my running shoes... keeps them nicer for longer and if I didn't, then my shoes are too loose. However, with my everyday DC's I never untie/tie them unless they come untied. They are skater shoes, so it doesn't really matter for me to keep them nicer longer.

I slip them off, but then I untie them before I put them on so that they feel nice and snug. So the same as smarler.

Like others, I don't untie when I take them off, but I always untie and tie when I put them on.

I don't know how you guys CAN'T untie and tie your shoes every time - I put mine on pretty tightly, and any "give" would give me blisters...so I always tie and untie. I just can't see how people are comfortable doing it the other way...

I have to untie and retie mine every time because otherwise, my feet don't fit into them right. I would have to shove my foot into my shoes and that would squash the back of the shoe down, so I just tie them every time.

my boyfriend works at Omega.. where they are athletic shoe experts haha.. and he says its ok to take your shoes off without untying them, but not on.. it will definitely decrease the life of your shoe.

If I've got to untie to put on, I think I may as well untie when taking them off as it's better for the shoe.

I'm also kick off them untied, then retie when I put them back on

fast paced times, huh? lazy maybe? what about working those 3 extra calories? i always tie and untie because 1. that's how you're supposed to do it2. it's bad for your feet to try and squeeze them out3. it's bad for your feet to run in shoes that are not tied properly (and if you can get your feet out without untieing they probably are)4. it's very bad for the shoes themselves
