Fitness Poll: Which Type of Exercise Have You Been Neglecting?

Which Type of Exercise Have You Been Neglecting?

Moving your body at least three times a week is a wonderful goal to have. It'll help you lose weight or maintain your current weight, it gives you energy, helps you sleep at night, strengthens your immune system, and improves digestion. When you exercise, you want to make sure your weekly routines include three things: cardio for burning calories and working your heart and lungs, stretching to prevent injury and increase flexibility, and strength training to tone your muscles. I know it's tough to include all three all the time, so tell me . . .

I'm going to just say it. I hate strength training and I consider myself physically strong. I just hate doing strength training exercises. I find it monotonous and boring. Flexibility is fun and relaxing and cardio gets me energized. Everytime I try to get "into" it I just end up getting bored and abandoning it for cardio. I'm an extremely hyper person. Strangely enough, I enjoy yoga. It's relaxing and I pride myself on being exaggeratively flexible!

I get on the elliptical 5 mornings a week for 30 minutes. So my cardio's taken care of. I just have to start strength training now...and maybe some yoga every now and then.

Cardio, since I have an infected blister on my foot right now.

I tend to skimp on flexibility because I just don't usually have time for it. I do lots of cardio and I fit in my strength training most of the time. I just find yoga and other flexibility stuff so boring and slow. I should definitely start incorporating it into my routine though.

How come there wasn't an option for all of the above.. =\

Strength training! I'm a big elliptical person for cardio. I danced ballet pretty seriously for the past ten years, so now, I'm pretty obsessive about maintaining flexibility through yoga. But weights--arg! No fun and I don't usually notice that much of a difference with them (maybe I'm just using them incorrectly), so it's easy to skimp on that part of a workout.

Doesn't everyone neglect cardio when possible? I HATE it, I do still do it because I know I should, but I much prefer strength training and flexibility.

Generally I neglect strength training b/c I hate it. It makes me bulky and it is boring. I have added pilates twice a week, which I love. It has helped counter the "bulking" a little bit. I have also started doing Making the Cut, which is circuit training, for days a week. It is face-paced, dynamic and super hard. I realize that strength training is important and I need to just find a way to make it work for me.

All of them, at least lately my afternoons have been spent baking and there has been no sun in the mornings so no morning workouts for me...need to get back!

Flexibility for sure. When I get to the gym I'm eager to workout and when I'm finished my mind is already focused on the other things I need to do that afterwards. I know it's not good for me.

Stretching. I just don't have the patience to sit still that long. >.< And really. I wish I looked that good in those running shorts. :)

I love stretching, makes me feel calm ... Cardio is my weak spot, the cold is keeping me from jogging outside and all the cardio i did this week was a half hour swim! I do count bycicling to the store and such as cardio :-)

Flexibility by far. I've finally gotten in the habit of doing cardio (yay), and I love strength training, but I never do any stretching moves.

i hate stretching, i really, really hate it. i guess i'm too impatient for all those slow moves... however, lately i force myself each evening to do some stretching.

I usually do all three but if I had to pick one it would be flexibility. I definitely need to do more Yoga and Pilates, but it is difficult to fit everything into my schedule.

Lately I've been doing tons of Barre Method classes (very similar to Physique 57 with pilates/yoga/ballet) and have kind of scrimped on the cardio...however, my body has drastically changed so I'm super excited! I have gradually added in 3 days of cardio...ahh so much to balance haha
