I love my Gaiam BalanceBall, but I've been on the search for a simple, at home way to do resistance training, especially since the wet, wintery mornings can impede my trips to the gym. The Gaiam Covered Resistance Cord Kit ($15) is an affordable and compact way to strength train in a small, indoor space.

I recommend working with the medium band, which was challenging for me, even though I lift weights three times a week. The DVD contains around 10 resistance cord exercises, a few core exercises without the cord, and a mini-stretch series for a cooldown. Many of the exercises involve lunges and squats while completing rear raises, kick backs, and curls with the cord. If you are just starting out, you can opt to do the exercises without the lunges as well as choose to do one arm at a time.
The foam-covered handles are comfortable and sweat absorbing, so they won't cut into the palms of your hands or slip like some Pilates resistance bands do. The workout was fluid, definitely sweat inducing, and covered the entire body. For dreary Winter days, this is a quick, yet intensive 30-minute set of exercises that will help you keep your guns, buns, and everything in-between in shape. If you ever grow bored of the DVD, you can always use the band for other resistance exercises.
